Dawn of the Replicants - Galashiels finest exponents of wonk rock.
DOTR came together in 1996, yet in incestuous style (like many SL acts) they'd all previously played in each others bands and had all worked together on the acclaimed, yet ultimately ill fated, music mag Sun Zoom Spark. They released there debut EP themselves, signed to major label imprint East West (allegedly as a tax loss to offset Simple Red's ill gotten gains), got dropped and eventually found a home with SL Records in 2006 for their album Fangs.
Since being herald as the best new band in the UK by the 'London' Times in 1997, and being awarded the two singles of the week by the NME (back when such things counted!) they continued to receive a slew of impressive press coverage , were consistently championed by John Peel until his untimely death and have toured across Europe and North America.
The band are currently on hiatus, but that hasn't stopped them compiling "So Far So Spitfire", a collection of early tracks, demos and b-sides, a companion piece to 2007 Bust The Trunk, a collection of their singles from1997 - 2007. The band are all tireless workaholics and, even when the band has been at it's most active, have had numerous side projects on the go. As well as appearing in numerous bands, including SL signings Paul Vickers and The Leg, Replicants can be found running labels, studios, website, magazines, radio shows and a Fringe Festival comedy show - much of which is linked to over there...

The Replicants are unique and enthralling
Mojo
A most unlikely, yet brilliantly exhilarating rock band
The Independent
Fast becoming indispensable British eccentrics
NME
The temptation is to go "Yeehaw!"
John Peel
Free of mainstream influence they’re able to sway, skip and swing their own rhythm, creating beautiful widescreen masterpieces from the darker side of acid-abused pop. Way-out, man.
Time Out
In a modern world gone mad, these bastard children of Frank Zappa-esque grandiose are it’s sure-fire remedy.
Record Collector
D.O.T.R don’t so much plough their own furrow as invent an entirely new kind of farm in which all the livestock speak Spanish and wear funny hats.
NME
Like Colombo, their shambolic and unfashionable exteriors disguise a keen instinct for murderous riffs and lethal choruses
