Misty's Big Adventure

Misty's Big Adventure

Misty’s Big Adventure... they’re really good. That’s not just our view, it’s the view of audiences and critics up and down the country, and indeed, across Europe. “So why haven’t I heard of them then?” Well, that’s because they’re a bit rubbish at you know, sending out letters, copies of albums, that kind of thing. But don’t let that put you off; discovering Misty’s is like discovering oil, you get excited, but you have to think carefully about who you tell. Not everyone’s gonna like it, but we think you will...

Thousands discovered the band last year when their single ‘Fashion Parade’ a biting, nay, ferocious, nay, cheeky attack on the copycat blandness of modern bands – which featured Noddy Holder, ferchrissake – broke singles records for its label, Rob Da Bank’s Sunday Best outfit. The hilarious, homemade video garnered some 95,000 plays on YouTube and the song has also made numerous TV appearances, first on BBC Four and most recently in an Irish anti-litter campaign ad.

Television's People is Misty's forth record, a concept album set entirely in one living room and features Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals) playing, in a tradition stretching back to Brian Wilson and Paul McCartney, various vegetables. The album tells the story is about a man who is too upset to leave the house and too wrapped up in his problems to find anything that will take his mind off them. The only thing that can cut through is the television. The sweet melodies and pounding rhythms, head-swirling psych and cheerful, coruscating humour that proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that Gareth is one of the best songwriters in the country today, pop or not.

Critical acclaim for the three albums and six singles the band have released has been extensive and has helped spread the word for a band who still seem to their fans like a well-kept secret that must, one day, be unearthed.

Let’s not forget this is an eight piece band we’re dealing with here, and a tight, energetic one at that, with a breadth of ability and a depth of skill matched by few, even in the top flight, as anyone who’s seen their live shows can attest. They have toured extensively round Britain and on the continent, removing socks and putting hairs on chests with exhilarating live shows and have toured supporting bands such as The Magic Numbers, The Zutons, The Guillemots, the Pipettes and Herman Dune. Plus, don’t forget they have a multi-blue-handed dancing, er, dancer called Erotic Volvo who is credited on the album as providing “moral / ethical standards”, so it’s not all doom and gloom.

Misty’s have recorded sessions for Rob Da Bank on BBC Radio 1, Tom Robinson, and Phil Jupitus on BBC 6Music, Jon Kennedy and Claire Sturgess (who also named Misty’s single ‘The Story Of Love’ as her Single of the Year), on Xfm. They also had their Green Man Festival show broadcast on R1 and had a gig broadcast on Xfm as well as headlining Stuart Maconie’s Freak Zone Live programme.

Their version of psychedelic pop is both brilliant and fabulous…. simply magnificent ***** The Big Issue.

Misty's are the best thing I've come across in ages, they make me wanna make a new album everytime I hear them, they make complicated music seem easy and if Gareth was fit I'd shag him Dave Maccabe, The Zutons

I LOVE them Everett True, PLAN B
